The florida georgia game keeps rivalry alive

Now that it is officially November, the final mad rush to the BCS championship is under way. After today, at least two more teams will be knocked out of the running for the national title. One showdown has undefeated Texas and undefeated Texas Tech squaring off in prime time. The other top 10 battle of the week is between two one-loss SEC teams trying to get back in the race. The bad blood between the arch-rival Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs is an added bonus.

Formerly known as "The World's Largest Cocktail Party" the latest Florida/Georgia showdown could determine the winner of the SEC East, and bring the winner a step closer to a BCS title berth.

Both the Gators and Bulldogs have a loss, but if the winner goes on to run the table and teams like Texas, Alabama, Penn State and Oklahoma stumble, the Gators or Bulldogs could take their place.

The Florida Gators looked to be out of it after an upset loss to Mississippi at home, but convincing wins over LSU and Kentucky have put the Gators back in the BCS race. This makes the Gators a favorite over the Bulldogs and a favorite to win the SEC East, where they would likely face Alabama for the conference crown.

The Georgia Bulldogs were the preseason number one, but stumbled with unconvincing wins and an embarrassing loss to Alabama early in the season. However, the Bulldogs are climbing back in the polls.

Florida and Georgia have always had a heated rivalry, but it got taken to another level last year when the entire Bulldogs team stomped on the end zone after their first touchdown. The Bulldogs used that early message to win over the Gators, which has fueled high anticipation over what could happen between them this year.

With the loser of the game knocked out of both SEC and BCS title contention, the new bad blood between the rivals could make the game even more contentious than usual.

As usual, the Florida/Georgia game is held at the neutral site of Jacksonville. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start on CBS.

The Florida/Georgia game is just the first big battle between rival top 10 teams this week. Number 1 Texas travels to upstart, undefeated Texas Tech in prime time tonight on ABC.
